BAKING ALERT

We are just back from Le Grand-Pressigny where we had a slightly torrid time due to Nick being ill.

We thought it was food poisoning (a dodgy scallop perhaps) but it rumbled on for so long that we decided it must have been a bug of some kind.

Anyway, we rescheduled most of our socialising and I entertained myself, while Nick was in bed feeling sorry for himself, by doing some baking, as usual.

I baked the cake you see above which is, believe it or not, a chocolate prune cake.  You can read all about it here.  Needless to say, Nick did not eat a slice himself – life is an adventure or nothing, they say, but some things are just too dangerous !!

More about our holidays later.

  1. I do hope that Nick is feeling better and that you managed to save him a piece of that gorgeous cake!

  2. Hopefully Nick has recovered - although I suppose that just means he has to go back to work...

  3. Sorry cannot spell and I did not check!!!
Jean I am so, so sorry, being ill in the UK is one thing but being ill when you are having a break in France is yet another!!! I suspect there may have been a bug going around as I did not feel right for a couple of weeks, but I kept taking some tablets from a previous tummy problem. Eventually I had to take a visit to the Dr, and it was still another two weeks before I felt sort of normal. Nigel had a mild problem, but it seemed to sort itself out in a few days.
Hope that all is well now. Take a look at my new blog, link on the old one! Keep well Diane

    1. Diane, it's such a shame when a well-earned and much looked forward to holiday is spoiled by illness, but we still had a nice time.

Thanks for the tip - will check out the link on your blog.

  4. Sorry to hear Nick wasn't well, Jean, but having just read your baking post, you certainly didn't waste the time when you couldn't do other things. It sounds scrumptious!

  8. I can confirm that the cake was absolutely yummy, but now I feel deprived, did Lulu get to my topping first or did they roll off on the way down the hill ... ?

  9. Isn't that always the way--perfect health and tons of energy during the work week, and then on the weekends or vacation, illness or fatigue strikes and we recover just in time to go back to work.

    Cake looks great.

    1. Carolyn, it's amazing how often it happens. Maybe we are so tired and ready for a holiday that we are more vulnerable to illness.

  10. We can vouch for the scrumminess of the cake! Poor Nick had to watch us eating large slices of it, while himself picking at a couple of slices of bread. Hoping Nick is now fully recovered.

  12. We were glad Nick could come for lunch in Sazilly, even though he abstained when offered some good Chinon wine. By the way, we got our brake light fixed. Glad you noticed that it was out. Taking apart the whole tail light assembly was a joy!

    1. Ken, the UK police are very keen on pulling up people with lights not working, I don't know if it's the same in France.

  13. By the way, you were lucky with the weather. You wouldn't have wanted to be here yesterday or today, what with the cold and the hard rain showers.

    1. Ken, you're right, we're glad Easter fell that week, not this, at least we had some good weather. It has been atrocious here since we got back, but I'm not too unhappy about it as we desperately need the rain. I just wish it wasn't so cold.
