REMEMBERING 2015. A YEAR OF BUILDING DUST AND CHAOS.

“Better late than never” seems to have become our motto lately! So here is a pictorial look back at our year in 2015.  It was a chaotic year and we got a lot done, but we found plenty of time to enjoy ourselves as well.

THE FIRST QUARTER - JANUARY

2015-1

January finds us in Derbyshire while Fred the contractor installs a new fosse septique chez nous.  He grapples with wet weather and struggles to get the job finished on time while we grapple with ice and snow in the UK.

FEBRUARY

In February we return to France to start stripping the kitchen in preparation for the mason to dig up the old floor and put down a new one.  The fosse work and the wet weather have transformed the drive into a depressingly muddy quagmire.  Remaking the drive had been part of the new fosse installation but Fred is unable to get it done until the weather improves.

MARCH

2015-4

2015-6

In early March the weather is glorious.  With the staircase removed so that the mason could get at the floor, the house is virtually uninhabitable.  So we gratefully accepted the offer from our friends Tim and Gaynor to move into their house for a while.  I am busy taking pictures of a stunning sunset at the end of a lovely sunny day when the phone call comes to say that our friend Barrie has died.  If we hadn’t met Barrie and Lucie all those years ago, we might never have bought our first little house in Le Grand-Pressigny.

  1. WOW! and this is just the first three months. You've come so far and achieved so much. The previous owners would hardly recognise the place!! Well done.

  3. Except for a few days of heavy rain in January, May, and September, you were very lucky with the fine weather we had in 2015. And you both persistent and resourceful. I'm glad it's going well and I can't wait to be able to drive down soon and do an inspection!

  4. You certainly have put your own stamp on the place and it is much, much improved.
