Back in the UK I am annoyed and upset to find that several of the cupboard doors in our kitchen have bubbled. We ordered the kitchen in September 2017 but it was not completed until January 2018, so it's only seven years old.
Predictably, Magnet discontinued this colour some years ago so we're waiting to find out what can be done about it. The construction is a coloured vinyl overlay fixed to the wooden door material. I am told that bubbling under the vinyl colour wrap apparently cannot be repaired. There are a total of 26 cupboard doors, 14 drawer fronts plus end panels and trim etc. to replace if they can't find matching doors amongst old stock somewhere.
In buying a quality kitchen we expected it to last much more than seven years. It obviously doesn’t affect the functioning of the kitchen, it just now looks cheap and horrible.
We await a response from the Magnet warranty people.
Oh I am SO sorry. That IS frustrating. One of our reasons for going with IKEA was that the guarantee appears to be good (but you never know until you try to make a claim) Our oven doors developed rusty lines on the surface very quickly. Apparently that is a known fault, but NOT covered. We had them recoated in 2015, and have just had them done again to go with new kitchen( , much cheaper than a new cooker) I really hope magnet sort this out for you. If doors discontinued, then I hope you get.a full set of new ones.
ReplyDeleteThe young woman manager in our local showroom is referring it to their claims dept which has now been "outsourced" so we don’t have high expectations. My feeling is that the best we will get is a refund for the cost of the doors.
DeleteApart from the cost, changing the whole lot would be immensely disruptive, like having a new kitchen in the first place, so we'll probably put up with it until we feel up to doing that and it certainly wouldn’t be a Magnet one!
They were very scathing about Ikea kitchens when we were looking at them but everyone we know that has an Ikea kitchen has been very happy with it and had no problem like this.
I will report back when we have a response.
That is very upsetting and infuriating. Our kitchen here in France was put in in 2005/6 and although probably looking a bit out dated now, it looks as good as the day it was put in! Hope you can solve the problem easily, cheers Diane
ReplyDeleteThe kitchen we had installed our previous UK house in 1985 is still there! Or at least it was a couple of years ago when the house was sold again and we took a peep online. The doors were solid dark oak, very fashionable at the time, and they have clearly been painted a pale cream colour, which is what we would have done ourselves. Doors like that can last forever.
DeleteHow disappointing. Hoping for a sensible and prompt solution.
ReplyDeleteIt depends on how long the guarantee is. We can't find our paperwork but even if the doors are covered, if they're no longer available, what then?
DeleteOur kitchen is over 40 years old... and looks it! I'm so keen to have a new one!
ReplyDeleteIt may well come back into style........with a coat of paint!
DeleteI hope you have some success with Magnet - but I'm afraid they will tell you the doors have been discontinued. Both the guy who cut our worktops, and my niece have had the same issue with Magnet doors. But keep arguing for some sort of recompense. Doors should last longer than that.
ReplyDeleteWe are fully expecting to be disappointed. This was meant to be our "dream kitchen" and as you say, doors should last longer than that.
DeleteWe have had a response from Magnet apologising and admitting that it's faulty workmanship.
DeleteWe have yet to hear what they might do about it. Maybe they're searching every warehouse in the land for replacement doors in that colour - there are three of the same size. One can hope.
